Recipe for a homemade strawberry and vanilla jam
The best and freshest way is to pick your own strawberries from a strawberry field. The great advantage of homemade jam is that you can store it well. That way you can enjoy the good fruit and its vitamins for months after the season. Moreover, you can determine yourself how much sugar you want to put in your homemade jam. Homemade jam in a nice glass jam jar also lends itself perfectly as a gift.
How to do it:
Clean the glass jam jars, lids and seals in boiling water to remove all germs and bacteria.
Wash the fruit and cut into small pieces. Mix them in a saucepan with the gelling sugar and bring to the boil. Boil for at least 3 minutes at the highest level. Flavour with vanilla paste. Remove the saucepan from the heat and puree the jam as desired.
Then carry out a gelling test: Place 1-2 teaspoons of the hot fruit mass on a small plate. If the mass becomes thick or solid the jam is ready.
Immediately pour the hot jam into the prepared jars. Clean the edges of the jars well. (Otherwise the seal of the jam jar or the lid may not close completely tightly). Close the lids and turn each glass upside down. After about 30 minutes, turn the jam jars over and store the homemade jam in a dark place.
For about 4 glass jars of jam for 250ml or 2 jars of jam for 500ml
- 1000 g Fruit washed and cut
- 350 g Gelling Sugar
- ca. 50 g Vanilla paste
